Vizio TV Recall List
Having a television that doesn’t work correctly can be very upsetting, especially if that’s your family’s primary source of entertainment. However, depending on the problem with the TV, you might end up getting notified about a recall.
According to the CPSC, there has been one recall on Vizio TVs of 245,000 units due to random detachment of the stand. This affects the 39 and 42-inch flat-panel Vizio televisions. Also, a class-action lawsuit was also filed in 2019 against Vizio for 16 million dollars. Over 16 million smart TVs would secretly track what their consumers were watching.
Below, we will dissect the recalls on the Vizio TVs so that you know what to do. While this recall is “old,” they don’t expire. So do not hesitate to turn your TV in.
Are There Any Recalls on Vizio TVs?
A current recall affects 245,000 Vizio E-Series 39-inch and 42-inch tv sets sold for $370 to $450.
Vizio advises customers to separate the stand immediately, put the television in a secure position, and consult Vizio for a spare stand assembly if the issue is with the TV stand.
This notification is to advise consumers that VIZIO has learned recently of a potential manufacturing defect in the TV stand assembly, which can cause the television to become unstable and tip over.
Around the outside of the stand assembly, the potential manufacturing flaw is not visible. While no injuries have been reported, as with any TV tip-over, users may be injured.
If you acquired an impacted unit around December 2013 and June 2014, you are affected by this issue. This problem doesn’t really affect television sets that are hung on the wall without a stand.
How is VIZIO Responding to Resolve This Issue?
VIZIO promptly notified customers of the potential issue, allowing affected customers to receive a remedy to replace the stand assembly as soon as possible.
Furthermore, for this specific issue, VIZIO is extending its normal one-year limited warranty to two years from the date of purchase.
This action is to ensure that customers who purchased the E390-B0, E390i-B0, or E420i-B0 can continue to enjoy their TV with complete peace of mind.
What Should VIZIO Customers Do?
If you have a VIZIO E390-B0, E390i-B0, or E420i-B0 TV, please use the Serial Number lookup tool, or call VIZIO’s Contact Center team toll-free at 855-472-7450.
You can also email them at: special.bulletin@vizio.com to reach VIZIO’s service team, who will assist you as soon as possible.
Make sure do not return your unit to the retailer from which you purchased it. Instead, contact VIZIO’s Customer Care team for expedited service with this issue.
Is There a Class Action Lawsuit Against Vizio TV?
There is a current class-action lawsuit for Vizio TVs. The defect for this lawsuit causes Vizio OLED, LED 4K UHD TVs to power off repeatedly and fail to turn back on.
A proposed class action claims that six models of Vizio OLED and LED 4K UHD flat-screen television sets are flawed in that they experience frequent and unexpected power outages.
There was also a second class-action lawsuit in which a federal judge supported a $17 million compromise in the VIZIO smart TV class-action suit.
However, the issue is vastly different from the on and off again previously mentioned issues. This particular lawsuit alleged that VIZIO secretively tracked what people watched on approximately 16 million smart TVs for three years.
Common Vizio TV Problems (Without Recall)
Just because there was only one official recall does not mean that all other Vizio Smart TV models are reliable. There have been several reported issues with this brand, such as:
- Constantly powering on and off
- Random lines through the television screens
- Failed power cords
- Distorted audio
While none of those mentioned above problems is dangerous per-se, they’re very annoying. And if you’re paying $500 for a TV, you want it to be reliable.
Can You Return A TV That Has Problems?
If your TV wasn’t recalled, but it randomly started acting up, you most likely will be able to return it. However, this depends on several factors:
- How long ago you bought the TV
- The cause of the issue
- The warranty or guarantee period
If you bought your TV three years ago and are now experiencing problems, unless there’s a recall, you most likely won’t be able to return it.
Also, if the problem is caused by something you directly or indirectly did, you won’t be able to return it. For example, if you spilled water or knocked it off the wall, you won’t be able to return it for a replacement or refund.
Always check with the manufacturer’s warranty period. If it’s still within the said time, and the problem is one that is covered, you should be able to turn it in for a replacement.
Always call the company directly to ask any questions. You also might want to try the retailer in which you purchased it as they sometimes have their own warranty or guarantee period.
Do Vizio TVs Have a Warranty?
VIZIO warranties its products to the original purchaser for ninety (90) days of non-commercial use against deficiencies in materials and workmanship.
If a VIZIO product fails within the guarantee period, VIZIO will replace or repair the unit at its absolute discretion.

How Do I Make a Claim on the Vizio Recall?
When you learn that a product you possess has now been recalled, you should be aware of specific details about the product. You’ll need to know the item’s name and brand and where you bought it.
Every recall follows nearly identical protocols; however, the outcome may vary considerably from item to item. A company recall, depending on the circumstances, means that the company must:
- Make an offer to repair your product
- Substitute the defective product voluntarily
- Give you a complete refund
- Financial compensation for injuries
Each situation, however, is unique. It is determined by the reason for the recall.
How to Make a Claim on the Vizio Recall By Yourself?
When an item is recalled, the company or manufacturer will usually issue a public notice informing the public about the product and the purpose of the recall.

- Taking the product to a location designated by the agency that issued the recall.
Each of these choices can be tricky if you cannot get to the place or dispose of it properly. In addition to these duties, you may be required to complete paperwork or wait for someone to assist you.
If you try to submit a recalled item for a refund or replacement on your own, it can be a challenging and time-consuming process.
