Diapers are one of those things you constantly need when there’s a baby in the house. You might have stocked up on a bunch, or friends and family graciously gifted you with packs and packs.

But what happens if your baby grows out of a diaper size faster than expected? Or you don’t like the brand, but you’d love to get some money back. Can you return diapers to Walmart?

You can return diapers purchased in-store or online in their unopened packaging within 90 days of purchase. If you have the receipt, it’s an easy process.

Without a receipt, you can return diapers but must first pass Walmart’s verification process. You can get a refund, store credit, or exchange the diapers.

Diapers are expensive, so if you have way more than you need, it’s understandable that you want to return them. But before toting all those diaper packs to Walmart, take a look at the return policy.

Returning Diapers To Walmart With A Receipt

Returning things like baby wipes and diapers to Walmart when you have the receipt is relatively straightforward. Diapers fall under Walmart’s standard return policy, but there are still some restrictions.

According to Walmart’s Standard Return Policy, you can return pretty much anything they sell. Whether you purchase the diapers in-store or online, you have 90 days to return them for a full refund, exchange, or store credit.

The diapers must be in their original packaging and unopened. If the packaging is open and only one or two diapers are missing, you can try. But just know the final decision falls with the manager. Due to health and safety standards, the store could not resell the product.

Can I Return Diapers I Bought On Walmart.com?

When you return diapers you bought online, you can do so by mail or bring them to a nearby Walmart. You’ll get a refund back to your original method of payment. The refund might not include your original shipping charges, but you won’t have to pay additional shipping to return the item.

To initiate a return for an online item, you can access your purchase history to request a return label. Starting the process at Walmart.com or using the Walmart app is easy. You will receive a return email for the item. You can also select whether you want a refund or replacement.

Then you follow the steps in the email. If returning the item via mail, you use the provided return label and drop the package off at a USPS or FedEx location.

Alternatively, you can schedule a pickup for the item or bring it to a Walmart store. If returning an online order to the store, bring the return email with you.

How Long Does It Take To Get A Refund From Walmart?

If you use a credit or debit card for the purchase, the refund will show up on your account within 10 business days. Keep your return receipt for your records until your refund shows up on your statement. If you use a debit card, you also have the option of getting a refund in cash.

If you do not have the card you used for the purchase, the employee can try to get the information by scanning your receipt. However, if it is unavailable or the card’s no longer active, you’ll get the amount as a store credit. In this case, you’ll receive a Walmart shopping card or gift card.

Returning Diapers To Walmart Without A Receipt

Life gets hectic, especially when there’s a baby in the mix, and the odds are good you don’t have your receipt. Or you received a bunch of diapers as gifts without receipts. Are you stuck with a mountain of diapers you can’t use? Not necessarily.

If it’s been within 90 days of purchase, bring the unopened diapers to Walmart along with your government-issued photo ID. Walmart will check your ID against their secure database to verify your identity. (Yes, many stores also track your return history to see if you have a pattern of making too many returns.)

Once you pass the identity check, Walmart also makes sure you’re returning an item they sell in-store. Otherwise, they won’t process the return. If all that checks out, you’ll have a few options when it comes to diapers.

  • You can exchange the item
  • If the item is $10 or more, you get a shopping card or gift card for the amount
  • You can get cash for items under $10

Is Walmart Marketplace’s Return Policy The Same?

If you purchase diapers through Walmart Marketplace sellers, the return policy is not the same as Walmart’s. However, Walmart does put a few parameters in place to meet minimum standards.

For the most part, sellers can set their own return policies. However, there are minimum return windows. You have 14 days to return electronics and luxury items, 30 days for all other items. Check out the Walmart Marketplace Return Policy to learn more.

What If It’s Been More Than 90 Days When I Return Diapers To Walmart?

Walmart’s return policy is clear that returns are issued within 90 days of purchase. If you have your receipt and it’s only a few days over 90, you could probably still return the item. Likewise, you could fib a little if you don’t have your receipt and say it’s been less than 90 days. It’s your conscience, so do what you want to do.

But if it’s over 90 days, Walmart can tell you sorry, no return. But then, what do you do with all of those diapers?

What Do You Do With Diapers You Don’t Need?

If you find yourself with a bunch of diapers you can’t use, and you can’t return them, try these ideas for extra diapers.

  • Pass them along to a friend or family member that needs them
  • Donate them to a women’s and children’s shelter
  • Sell them on sites like Facebook Marketplace
  • Donate them to a local preschool or daycare if they can accept them
  • Use opened packages of diapers to make baby shower wreaths, diaper bouquets, etc.
  • If you’re planning to have more kids, hang on to them for a while before passing them along

Bringing Diapers Back To Walmart

It’s pretty easy to bring diapers back to Walmart if you have your receipt and it’s been 90 days or less. Whether you bought the diapers online or in-store, you can get a full refund or store credit. If you don’t have the receipt, but it’s been within 90 days, you can still return the diapers.

You’ll need your photo ID so Walmart can verify you against their database. Once they make sure they sell those specific diapers in-store, they’ll issue the return. You’ll receive a store credit for most returns without a receipt unless the item is less than $10.

For easy reference, Walmart lays out its return and refund policies on its website. You might be out of luck if it’s been over 90 days, but you can always try. Who knows, you might catch the manager in a good mood. Otherwise, you can donate the diapers, gift them to a friend, or try selling them via Walmart Marketplace.
