Movies

Max is a general entertainment service, so you’ll get lots of blockbuster movies from the Warner Bros. archive. That includes hits like “Barbie,” “Dune,” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Max often hosts the big-screen adventures of DC Comics superheroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

The lineup also includes dozens of critically acclaimed movies, like those from the Criterion Collection, Roger Ebert’s Great Movies, and the British Film Institute’s Sight and Sound Critics’ Poll. Max is often the host for films from cinematic titans like Kubrick, Fellini, Truffaut, Miyazaki, and Kurosawa. A deal with distributor A24 ensures critical favorites will continue on the service for a long time.

The discovery+ movie library won’t include many Hollywood hits. It’s mostly documentary-style films.

TV

Max gives you some of the greatest TV shows ever – “The Sopranos,” “The Wire,” “The Last of Us,” “Game of Thrones,” “Succession,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Sex and the City,” and “Deadwood.” You’ll also find popular TV like “Friends,” “South Park,” and “The Big Bang Theory.” You’ll also get the great lineup of HBO miniseries.

Discovery+ is focused primarily on unscripted shows like “Hoarders,” “Pawn Stars,” and “90 Day Fiancé.” Many of the shows on discovery+ are also available on Max.

Sports

Max offers the B/R Sports section, which includes some NBA, MLB, NHL, and March Madness games, and some matches from the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team and U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team.

You won’t find sports on discovery+.

Bottom Line

For most people, Max offers a far better value with truly exceptional TV and movies and a small, but valuable sports lineup. If you truly love unscripted TV, discovery+ may be a better choice, but Max still offers many titles you care about.
