GE may be of the largest conglomerates in the world, but it doesn’t stop them from making mistakes once in a while. There have been a few times when their dishwashers malfunctioned or have a faulty component, which both can be a risk of fire.

GE recalled about 174,000 units on October 26, 2010, 1.3 million dishwashers on August 09, 2012, and another 74,300 in 2015. Its largest recall was announced on May 16, 2007, when about 2.5 million units were recalled under several brands; Eterna, GE Profile, Hotpoint, and Sears-Kenmore.

Let’s see why each recall took place, when exactly, what models were recalled, and how you can get free repair or compensation.

How Long Does a GE Dishwasher Last?

After speaking to several manufacturers and home improvement stores, we were told GE dishwashers last an average of 10 years. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t have repairs in the 10-year span.

Is There A Recall on a GE Dishwasher?

GE had four major recalls; one in 2007 for 2.5 million units, 2010 for 174,000 units, 2012 for 1.3 million units, and 2005 for 74,300 units.

February 18, 2005 Recall

This was GE’s smallest recall, with just 74,300 units recalled, but the risk of fire is all the same.

Hazard: GE dishwasher’s connector can short-circuit and overheat during use, which is a risk of fire to homeowners and consumers.

Recall Description: GE dishwasher models GSD5500G, GSD5560G, GSD5800G, GSD5900G, GSD5960G, EDW3000G, and EDW3060G, with serial numbers with the first letter A through T and the second letter G, or the serial letters VF.

The serial number is vital here because not all dishwashers with these model numbers are part of the recall. Locate the model and serial number on the dishwasher’s door.

Dates Sold: From January 2004 through February 2005.

May 16, 2007 Recall

Products Recalled: Eterna, GE, GE Profile, GE Monogram, Hotpoint, and Sears-Kenmore dishwashers

Hazard: The liquid rinse-aid leaks from its dispenser right onto the internal wiring. This causes an electrical short, then causes the unit to overheat. There were 56 reports of property damage and 12 reports of a fire.

Units Recalled: About 2.5 million units

Recall Description: The recall includes all the products mentioned above. Dishwashers sold in white, black, almond, bisque and stainless steel. Check the models below to see if your dishwasher was recalled.
