It’s fair to say that chair dimensions can vary considerably from design to design, especially when you consider the wide array of style options available. For instance, the height of the seat on a standard kitchen chair will vary drastically from the seat height on a bar stool. The typical chair seat is between 16 and 20 inches tall and at least 18 inches deep. If the chair has a back, it is usually at least 14 inches high.

There are also standard dimensions for dining chairs, that most adhere to, so they can be paired with standard-height tables. When it comes to width, the average dining chair is from 16 to 20 inches wide. Though, these measurements will vary considerably based on the specific style and manufacturer.

Stools come in a wide array of types and sizes to satisfy a variety of functions and uses. Though, the most common variations in stool heights are bar stools, counter stools, and tall bar stools.

Counter stools range in height from 23 inches to 28 inches, bar stools are from 29 inches to 32 inches, and tall bar stools range from 33 inches to 36 inches tall. There should also be a minimum of 10 inches between the top of the seat’s stool and the underside of the counter to allow for sufficient space for the user’s legs.

Created by designer Norman Cherner in 1958, the Cherner Side Chair is an archetypal mid-century modern side chair. Made out of laminated plywood in progressing thicknesses that range from 5 ply at the perimeter edges to 15 ply at the thin waist, the Cherner Side Chair is iconic. Office chairs, or sometimes referred to more specifically as “desk chairs,” are adjustable chairs that are specifically designed to be used in an office setting or at a desk. As such, they are usually designed with the highest level of adjustability dependent on ergonomic preferences and the height and stature of the user.

In most cases, they roll on casters, and the height of the seat and arms can be adjusted. Office chairs can be narrowed down more precisely based on the office need – from task chairs for short-term usage to executive chairs with complete back and head support.

The dimensions of an office chair will vary based on the manufacturer since there is a huge emphasis on office furniture that suits the user’s needs. Although, the average desk chair is between 20 and 22 inches wide by 36 inches high and the average computer chairs is 18 inches wide by 36 inches high.

Designed by Eero Saarinen, this armchair is a cushioned, round, and organically shaped piece that features a molded shell on mobile casters. It is similar in style to the Tulip and Womb chairs from the same designer.
