A dishwasher makes post-dinner clean up a breeze. When you’re loading your dishwasher, you have a couple of decisions to make. You may want to locate the perfect fit for a bowl or wonder if your blender is dishwasher safe.

The Vitamix S-Series 30-ounce containers, blade base, lids, and seals are all top-rack dishwasher-safe. The Vitamix S-Series 20-ounce and 40-ounce containers are top-rack dishwasher safe. However, Vitamix does not recommend placing the full blender or blender lid into the dishwasher.

How to Clean a Vitamix Container

To preserve the integrity of a Vitamix, you shouldn’t put it in the dishwasher. Depending on which Vitamix model you own, you may have a Clean setting. Instead of putting the blender in the dishwasher, opt for manual cleaning.

If your Vitamix model has a Clean setting, follow these steps.

You will need mild dish soap.

Step 1: Rinse the Container. After each use, you should immediately rinse your Vitamix with warm water, not hot.

Step 2: Add Dish Soap. After you rinse your Vitamix, add two drops of mild dish soap. Fill the container halfway with warm water.

Step 3: Secure the Lid. Secure the Vitamix lid with the lid plug in the locked position. Plug the machine into a power outlet.

Step 4: Select the Clean Setting. Select the Clean setting and turn on the Vitamix. The machine will automatically turn off when the cycle is complete.

Step 5: Rinse the Container & Air Dry. After the Clean Cycle is complete, rinse the container thoroughly with warm water. Place the container upside down and let it air dry completely.

If your Vitamix does not have a Clean setting, do the following steps.

Step 1: Rinse the Container. After each use, you should immediately rinse your Vitamix with warm water, not hot.

Step 2: Add Dish Soap. After rinsing, place two drops of mild dish soap into the Vitamix. Fill the container halfway with warm water.

Step 3: Secure the Lid. Secure the Vitamix lid with the lid plug in the locked position. Plug the machine into a power outlet.

Step 4: Turn the Machine On. Turn the Vitamix on Variable Speed 1. Slowly increase the speed to Variable 10. Switch to High and run for 30 to 60 seconds.

Step 5: Rinse the Container & Air Dry. After you let the machine run for 30 to 60 seconds, turn it off and rinse the container thoroughly. Turn the machine upside down to air dry completely.

How to Deep Clean a Vitamix

Depending upon how often you use your Vitamix, you should give it a deep clean once a month or so.

To deep clean your Vitamix, follow these steps once a month or as needed.

You will need white vinegar and water to deep clean your Vitamix.

Step 1: Fill the Container. Fill the Vitamix with 4 cups of cool water and 4 cups of white vinegar. Let the container sit and soak for four hours.

Step 2: Rinse the Container. Empty the contents of the container and rinse thoroughly with water.

Step 3: Follow the Appropriate Cleaning Steps. When you finish rinsing the container, follow the appropriate steps above to complete the deep-clean process.

How to Clean a Vitamix That Is Cloudy

If your Vitamix is looking cloudy or stained, it is most likely due to your blend of fruits or vegetables. Produce, green in particular, can leave a slight film or residue on the blender container.

To clean your Vitamix, fill the container with one cup of white vinegar and halfway with warm water. Let the container soak standing upright for several hours. After it has soaked, pour the contents out.

Use a soft sponge to clean the inside of the container and rinse it thoroughly. Then, set it upside down to air dry.

Note: Be careful while cleaning around the blades assembly as they are sharp.

How to Remove Turmeric Stains from a Vitamix

Turmeric seems to leave a golden stain on everything it touches. To keep adding the spice to your favorite dishes and drinks, you should know how to clean your machine correctly. Because the stain can be so prominent, it is best to clean your Vitamix immediately.

To remove turmeric stains, follow the steps below.

You will need water, bleach, dish soap, and baking soda.

Step 1: Use UV Light. If you have the time and sunshine, try using natural UV light to remove the stains. Set the container outside for a few hours. If this doesn’t work, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Rinse the Container with Water & Bleach. Fill the container halfway with warm water and add 1.5 teaspoons of liquid bleach to the water. If you have the Clean setting on your Vitamix, run the cycle using the steps mentioned before. If you do not have the Clean setting, follow the steps above using the Variable speeds.

Step 3: Run the Clean Cycle. After cleaning with water and bleach, rinse the blender and repeat the process with dish soap and warm water.

If the stain persists, move to the next step.

Step 4: Manually Clean the Container. If the turmeric stain is still there, try manually cleaning your Vitamix. Create a paste of baking soda and water and apply it to the container. Using a soft-bristled brush or sponge, scrub the container with the paste.

When the stain is gone, rinse the container with soap and water and let air dry.

How to Clean a Vitamix After Making Peanut Butter

Peanut butter, nut butters, and other sticky foods can cause issues with your Vitamix if you don’t clean it properly. First, try the cleaning cycles mentioned earlier. This should remove most of the food particles.

If the Clean cycle doesn’t work, soak your Vitamix in warm water and dish soap for about an hour. After you have soaked the blender, take a sponge and scrub any remaining food. Dump out the contents and repeat as necessary.

Finally, run your Vitamix through one more cleaning cycle, then air dry upside down.

How to Remove Odors from a Vitamix

If your Vitamix starts to develop an odor, you should take care of it right away.

Follow the steps below to remove unpleasant odors from your Vitamix.

You will need water, white vinegar, and bleach.

Step 1: Warm Water & White Vinegar. Fill your Vitamix halfway with one part warm water and one part white vinegar. Follow the cleaning steps mentioned above based on your model using the Clean setting or Variable Speeds.

After the cycle is over, rinse the container and follow the cleaning steps again using dish soap and warm water. If the odor persists, move on to the next step.

Step 2: Soak the Vitamix Overnight. If the odor is still present, fill the container thoroughly with one part water and one part white vinegar. Let soak for at least four hours, or as long as overnight. After the container soaks, dump out the contents, then run through the quick-cleaning steps using dish soap and warm water.

Step 3: Warm Water & Bleach. If you’re still struggling with an odor, try warm water and bleach. Fill the container halfway with warm water and 1.5 teaspoons of liquid bleach. Clean your Vitamix using the Clean setting or the Variable speeds, as mentioned before.

When the cleaning cycle is done, rinse the blender and repeat the cleaning cycle with dish soap and warm water. Flip the container over and air dry.

Do I have to air dry my Vitamix?

It’s important to air dry your Vitamix instead of drying it with a dish towel and putting it away. Not only is it better for your blender, but it is also better for your health. Air drying prevents bacteria from forming. Air dry your Vitamix on your countertop or a countertop dish rack.Bacteria enjoy wet, dark, and warm places. Therefore, bacteria quickly spread on wet dishes. Warm temperature speeds up bacteria growth, and the darkness inside a cabinet starts the process. If you have a Vitamix that is dishwasher-safe, you should still remove the pieces before the heat setting.

What is the average cost of a Vitamix?

The price of a Vitamix will vary based on the model. You can find older models for about $160 and newer models with more features around $800. If you regularly drive through your local smoothie or juice shop, a Vitamix may be a good option for you. A $6 smoothie two times per week amounts to a little over $600 a year. If you buy a mid-range Vitamix, the blender can pay for itself in less than a year.
